O Facebook plans to change the name of his company next week to reflect his focus on building the metaverse, according to information from the The Verge. The upcoming name change, which the CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to speak at the company's annual conference on October 28, is intended to signal the tech giant's ambition to be known for more than just social media.
The rebrand would likely position Facebook's blue app as one of many products from a parent company that oversees groups like Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus and much more. However, when contacted by The Verge, a Facebook spokesperson declined to comment on this story.
Facebook already has more than 10,000 employees building consumer hardware like AR glasses, which Zuckerberg believes will eventually be as ubiquitous as smartphones. In July, he told the portal that over the next few years, “we will transition from people seeing us primarily as a social media company to a metaverse company.”
The company's new name has not yet been released, although there are some guesses and speculations.
